About Us
-David Calamari, Creator and Operator of Barry Road Manor.
Barry Road Manor is a family owned and operated haunted house that takes place every year in Scarsdale, NY. The haunt was established in 2009 and has been running strong ever since. Each year, the haunt gets bigger and better, bringing new scares, characters, and themes. We try to change the theme every year to keep things interesting and exciting for our guests.
We are located on Barry Road in Scarsdale, New York and is open to the public for safe, fun, and scary Halloween thrills. In 2016, the haunt will be open for 2 nights in addition to Halloween, just incase you can't make it Halloween night! The haunt is built each year out of a love for Halloween, and bringing the neighborhood together to create awesome memories. We have never made a penny from doing this, we do it all for the fans. The event is year round by our amazing team by creating ideas, building props, designing special effects, and so much more all to create the highest quality scare for our guests.
It all started in 2009 when a couple of friends and myself decided we would set up a graveyard on my front lawn for Halloween. We bought a few styrofoam tombstones from the store, some creepy fence, and a fog machine. We created a very small graveyard gated off by the fence we had bought, and had fog throughout, as well as some scary music to create an even creepier atmosphere. After hearing what everyone said about it, we knew we had to do it again the next year, only bigger, and better.
The next year, we added lights to our graveyard, and a motor powered prop that hid behind one of our new tombstones. This was also the first year that we had a walkthrough. It was very small, no bigger than 150 square feet, but we had a blast, and immediately started planning for 2011.
In 2011, the haunt moved onto our driveway, and made a big "U" shaped path for the guests to walk along. Inside, we had a few scares, as well as fog, strobe lights, and a few props. The 2012 haunted house was in the same location but had to be canceled due to Super-storm Sandy.
Our 2013 haunted house was planned to be a lot bigger than it was, but due to several variables out of our hands, we had a week to design, and set up a new, smaller haunt than what we had planned. Regardless, we had a successful Halloween. The graveyard for 2013 was also expanded to take up the entire front of our property.
2014 was by far our best year to date. The haunt was bigger than anything we have ever done, at a near 600 square feet. Several new props were built, as well as LED lighting, and we used a large party tent to build the haunt under. We had over 400 people walk through the haunt, and received rave reviews from everyone. Construction began in the beginning of October, and we were still adding finishing touches on Halloween day! We finished just in time, and had a fantastic night.
For 2015, we made the haunt two and a half times larger than 2014. With 6 rooms, and 5 hallways, the haunt took an average of 7 minutes to walk through.
2016 marked our final year at our home in Scarsdale. More information on our haunts can be found on the "Our Haunts" tab.
